Getamungstit is looking for Griffith University Gold Coast students to join the Editorial Team. The team will work with staff editors to produce up to seven editions of Getamungstit per year and to contribute to Geta Online. These are volunteer positions – there is no remuneration for work on Getamungstit.

We are looking for students with diverse experiences and perspectives and a broad skill set. Read on if you’d like to know more about applying to join the Editorial Team. If you’d prefer to contribute by writing for us or submitting creative pieces, that’s great too! Drop us a line at getamungstit@griffith.edu.au

The Editorial Team will be responsible for:

  • Driving the publication process for the Student Guild magazine, Getamungstit.
  • Brainstorming ideas for new content and developing the strategic direction of the magazine.
  • Liaising with the team of student contributors to complete standard magazine content.
  • Reviewing general submissions.
  • Develop operational resources for Getamungstit.
  • Participating in the proofreading and editing process.

Specific roles

You don’t need to be a writer to join the team. Although most members will play a role in content creation, we have a range of roles that are essential to the running of a successful magazine. In addition to the general responsibilities detailed above, we are looking for people who may fulfill some of the following specialist tasks:

Marketing Coordinator

  • Working closely with the Marketing Manager.
  • Liaising with businesses and contacts to source giveaways for the magazine.
  • Leading on-campus launch events and distribution activities each edition.

Social Media and Visual Coordinator

  • Developing a robust social media strategy and overseeing the social media presence of the magazine.
  • Coordinating photographers to take photographs for the magazine for event coverage and magazine features.
  • Working closely with the Marketing Manager to link in with existing social channels.

Online Coordinator

  • Developing a content schedule to create a strong online presence for Geta Online.
  • Working with other team members to access and organise regular contributors for the online space.

Communication Coordinator

  • Promoting the magazine to various faculties, clubs, and students on campus in order to source skilled contributors.
  • Liaising with relevant faculties to identify opportunities to showcase student work.
  • Establishing good relationships with other stakeholders on campus.

Content Editor (two positions available)

  • Working directly with other students to provide editorial assistance and to source content.
  • Working with student contributors to source images to accompany their articles.
  • High level proofreading and, preferably, structural editing.
  • Responsibility for creating/sourcing content for specific regular sections of the magazine.

What experience do I need?

This is a training opportunity so staff editors will work with you closely until you are confident in your role. We don’t expect you to have direct experience in these positions but we are looking for people with the energy, enthusiasm and skills to be able to learn quickly and with the potential to excel in these positions. If you do not have direct experience, in your application please discuss why you believe you have the potential to excel on the Editorial Team.

What general skills do I need?

We are looking for people with the following skill set:

  • Passionate about the university and the student experience
  • A strong interest in writing, journalism and/or communications
  • Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organised
  • A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

What is the time commitment?

A minimum of two hours per week and possibly more during the content development phase of each edition. We are looking for people who can commit until mid 2019.  Although it is not essential, an interest in continuing through to the end of 2019 will be highly regarded.
